MEDELLIN

Our next stop is Medellin, the "city of eternal spring" full of colors and awesome people. I traveled to Medellin on January for vacations and I love it. I lived a magnific experience, I felt that everyday was a great adventure and I wanted to stay more days, but for personal reason I have to return . Well, I don't want to distract you anymore, so I'm going to start showing the places I visit during my stay in Medellin.

1.  LA PIEDRA DEL PEÑON:

Near to Medellin there is a little town called Guatapé with a giant rock as the main attraction. This rock is 220 meters high and, if you want to appreciate the beautiful views, there are 659 steps to climb. When you get to the top, there are a couple of small stores where you can buy food and reminders, but I advise you not to buy reminders there, because you can find very nice and cheap things after you go down. Below there are also restaurants with delicious and typical medellin food such as paisa tray, I recommend you taste it.

I must admit that in this adventure, I discovered my fear of heights, but still I went up every step and I could see my beautiful Antioqueno land. That was a pleasant experience for me and my family.

BOGOTÁ

I'm going to start with our capital. Also called La Calendaria. Bogotá is a city with diversity of culture and full of life.  You can find all types of things: museums, colorful neighborhoods, bookstores,  malls, libraries, squares, cathedrals, beautiful buildings, etc. People are nice , however, today there are many problems of insecurity in the country, therefore, if you are planning to travel to Colombia, be careful.

1.  MONSERRATE:

It's a hill located in the eastern mountain range, which has been a place of religious pilgrimage since the colonial era and is a natural, religious, grastronomic attraction of the city. You can ascend to the hill by the pedestrian path, by cable car or by funicular. The climate is much colder than that of the city, for this reason you have to climb with warm clothing and why not? Have a glass of hot chocolate with bread and cheese, or maybe a rich rib broth.

2. SALT CATHEDRAL OF ZIPAQUIRÁ:

It is one of the pillars of the spiritual strength of Colombia and a religious temple built inside the salt mines of Zipaquirá. The cathedral of Sal de Zipaquirá is considered one of the most remarkable architectural and artistic achievements of Colombian architecture, for which reason it has even been awarded the title of architectural jewel of modernity. The importance of the Cathedral, lies in its value as cultural, religious and environmental heritage.

3. GUATAVITA LAGOON:

This lagoon was reputedly one of the sacred lakes of the Muiscas Indigenous and a ritual conducted there may hace been the basis for the legend of El Dorado. The lagoon is situated over an impresiv landscapes views. The legend says the lake is where the Cazigue (spiritual head of the muiscas) celebrated a ritual in which he (named also "El Dorado") was covered in gold dust before bathing in its waters. Afterward, jewerly was thrown in. A few artifacts of gold and silver found at bottom hold proof to this claim; however, to date, the trips to the bottom of the lagoon have yindelded no more than these.

4. GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ CULTURAL CENTER:

Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a famous Colombian writer, who with his stories has enriched literature and culture colombia. This center of culture is dedicated to him and his work.

The two main services of this Cultural Center are bookshop and art gallery; the first is connected to the outside by large windows and has a capacity for 50,000 books, on the other hand, the gallery with more than 216 square meters is made to locate in it the works of national and international artists.

Among the services offered include covered parking, a bank branch, a restaurant, a bookshop and a record store.

5. GOLD MUSEUM:

This museum has more than 34,000 pieces of gold, 20,000 lithic objects, ceramics, precious stones, and textiles belonging to the Quimbaya, Calima, Tayrona, Sinú, Muisca, Tolima, Tumaco and Magdalena cultures, among others. It has the largest pre-Hispanic goldsmith collection in the world, with approximately thirty-four thousand pieces of gold and tumbaga, 1 about twenty-five thousand objects in ceramics, stone, shell, bone and textiles. Exhibits pieces of different indigenous cultures settled in present-day Colombia before the arrival of Europeans, among which are the Calima, the Muiscas, the Nariño, the Quimbaya, the Zenú, the Tairona, the San Agustín, the Tierradentro, the Tolima , among other things
