Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2019 occurs on Thursday, October 31. It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of
Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints; soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating food.

The next zero day to be held at LA SALLE will be October 31. That's right, in HALLOWEEN. This date and holiday is the most anticipated by children, youth, adults in the world, and in the salle there is no exception. On this day the school has planned some super fun and pedagogical activities such as body paint (where the body of several students is represented representing something significant of nature), a music festival (a presentation by the mathematics department), the rally Mathematics (a competition to work our math skills), in addition all grades will dress up as a group, teaching their creativity and demonstrating specifically is the best.

I will share some pictures and videos about that day, so stay tuned!

La Salle never stops!

Hello friends, in today's post I want to tell you a little about two of the activities that La Salle school has done in the last month. First of all we have the day 0 that was made on September 20 of this year, a day in which love and friendship were commemorated. All students, teachers and administrators were present and shared among them. Among the activities that were carried out was: The music fest (Each student who enrolled made a wonderful interpretation, demonstrating his talent), a Eucharist (as you well know, La Salle is a Catholic school and likes to celebrate Eucharist every month) , movies (a student preference movie was screened in each classroom). No doubt this day was very exciting.

As for connection, another activity that took place on October 4, which sought the integration of all areas of knowledge in the same night event, promoting the care and conservation of the environment, through activities that protect the relationship between man -nature.

Each area led activities such as the following:

  1. Scientific stands
  2. play zone
  3. literary buffet
  4. north santandereana fair
  5. science CLIL fair
  6. artistic exhibition
  7. theatrical performance.

Tonight will always be remembered as one of the best.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!

And many activities are coming at our school La Salle Cúcuta. Starting with our day 0 to be held on September 20 in order to celebrate the day of love and friendship, which will be in charge of the English department and activities such as dance therapies, exercise, a m,usic fest, artistic demonstrations, performances, cinema and a Share in each room. In addition, this month the most important and special event of the year will take place: The model of the Congress of the Republic, which represents an opportunity for the development of skills such as the oratory and a mechanism to include young people in the country's politics . MOCOR will be on September 25, 26 and 27. If you have the opportunity to attend, do not miss it!

I also wanted to talk a little about family day that took place last Sunday, September 7 at the school premises. It was a day dedicated to the family, where everyone could enjoy in the company of their loved ones. Each grade sold different food from lasagna to roast beef, in order to raise funds for a project that will improve the school's infrastructure.

Well, entering a more environmental and friendly attitude to the planet, I will mention the activities related to the department of natural sciences such as GREEN CONNECTION, an event focused on the exhibition of products made from recycling that will be held on October 04.

On October 31 we will have another event: the body paint and the celebration of Halloween! We don't have all the information yet, but as soon as I get it, I will share it with you.

La Salle School isn't a boring place and you are invited to join us in our fantastic events!

The Lion King

The Lion King is a 2019 American computer and animated musical filom directed and produced by Jon Favreau, wirtten by Jeff Nathanson, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a computer animated remake of Disney's traditionally animated 1994 film of the same name.

The movie is about a little lion named Simba, who is the son of the prairie king. During the movie Simba has to learn to be a good king, since he will be in the future. However, his father, Mufasa has an evil brother who resents him for being the king. Scar wanted to be the king forever, but could not because Mufasa was chosen.

One day Simba meets his uncle, Scar. They talk a little about simba's future, and he somehow presumes that he will rule everyone and that his uncle will have to obey him. This enrages Scar, and tells him about forbidden lands. Scar tricks the little lion to go, and Simba does.

In those distant lands, Simba is in danger, and was accompanied by her friend, Nala. Both lions almost died except by Mufasa who rescued them. Mufasa talks to Simba so he understands that what he did was not right, and he understands.
Scar was not happy that Simba was still alive, so he devised a plan to kill him, but in the process Scar killed his own brother and blaming Simba. He fled the prairies to save his life from hyenas, and met Timon and Pumba, who adopted and cared for him.
The best part of the movie was when Timón and Pumba started singing their special song "Hakuna Matata". It's a very catchy song. Also, while the song was playing, in the movie they showed Simba's evolution until he became a big and healthy lion.
I would say that there is no bad part in the movie, but the part I liked least was the death of Mufasa. It was very sad and traumatic.
the truth is that the movie is 95% faithful to the animated movie, I liked it a lot and I recommend it to anyone. It is suitable for all audiences and leaves good teachings to children. Without a doubt, the lion king is my favorite movie in the whole world.

I will leave you the link of  the trailer.

Interclases 2019: the great closing of the Lasallian week

Yesterday at 4 o'clock in the afternoon the opening of the interclass games began at La Salle School, in which the entire Lasallian family met to celebrate them.

All the students wore their sports uniforms with different colors to differentiate themselves. In addition, each grade (preschool to 11th grade) had a country to represent.

And to determinate the winners of theses interclasses games, each grade did their respective choreography, evaluated by juries. Within the choreographic competition there were 3 categories:

Category A: First, second, third and fourth grade
Category B: Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Grade
Category C: Eighth, ninth and tenth grade

It was a very entertaining day full of surprises, in which there was a surprise dance done by the rector, teachers and coordinators; Good news like there's no class on Monday, etc.

P.S: I hope that next year you can attend and enjoy this activity.

Spelling Bee

Yesterday, the spelling contest organized by the Department of Foreign Language took place at the La Salle Cúcuta school during the afternoon, as part of the activities celebrating the 65th anniversary of our educational institution. This activity had main objective to encourage the development of linguistic competence in the process of acquiring English as a foreign language, through the exchange of educational experiences to enjoy a healthy competence in spelling excellence, pronunciation and vocabulary expansion.

It started at 2 pm and ended at 5 pm. Within the contest, there were 4 categories:

Category A (For first or second grade children)
Category B (For children in third, fourth or fifth grade)
Category C (For children in sixth, seventh or eighth grade)
Category D (For ninth, tenth or eleventh graders)

In this competition, students from 6 other schools were invited to participate. Within the competition, there were 3 rounds:

1. In the first round, participants will have to delegate two words given by the juries
2. In the second round, the participants will have to spell two words given by the jurors and they will retain them in their mind and then begin to spell them.
3. The third round is very similar to the second, but now it will take time.

This is a sample of what the spelling bee was:

And to the joy of our school, three of our participants in category B, C and D were the winners of their category. In addition, between these two winners is a very special companion: Valentina Mantilla Mendoza of the 10th grade B, a pride for our course.

Now, I will share a little interview I had with her:

Camila Conde: Good evening, Miss Mantilla
Camila Conde: Could you give me an interview for my blog about the Spelling Bee?
Valentina Mantilla: Hello, of course.
Camila Conde: What did you feel when you were selected to participate in the spelling bee?
Valentina Mantilla: I think it's a great responsibility that falls on me because basically I'm representing the school and especially the English department, so the image we give will be very important
Camila Conde: I think the same thing, if you were selected, it's because you deserve it.
Valentina Mantilla: Thank you, it means a lot.
Camila Conde: Okay, the next question is: does this contest give you something important in your life? Do you feel that it is fundamental in the life of a student?
Valentina Mantilla: Personally, yes. It is a small achievement in my life but sometimes small achievements encourage us to believe that we have the potential to do great things. This is important in a student's life because sometimes it is thought that what we do will never be enough
Camila Conde: I agree with you, Miss Mantilla. But I would like to ask you one last thing.
Valentina Mantilla: Good.
Camila Conde: What did you feel about winning in your category?
Valentina Mantilla: Well, at the beginning I was very nervous but I tried to relax and focus on my own and I think that if I achieved both. Then it felt very good, because I think I managed to do something that I doubted a lot
Camila Conde: Congratulations, Valentina, and thanks for the interview.

Beginning of Lasallian Week

Today, Lasallian week starts and until now everything looks very good. The 11th graders took over the teachers and coordinators, made themselves known in each classroom and did a great job as such.

In the activities scheduled for today were: a talk about the importance of sport and the beginning of an active life; and a football match between teachers and students, reinforcing the unity and integrity of our Lasallian family.

For the day of tomorrow is planned: a quiz about the life of our founder San Juan Bautista De la Salle, an ecological fashion show with recycled materials, screening of a film in classrooms, etc.

Apparently, this Lasallian week will be a success and possibly one of the best that La Salle has experienced. But these are just assumptions, I will be telling you what happens.

SPECIAL INVITATION

On Monday, May 13, the La Salle de Cúcuta school will be celebrating, celebrating its 300th anniversary. But this will not be a simple celebration that will last a day, no, this holiday will take place throughout that week and will be full of many activities.

And you may wonder, what activities are you talking about?

Well, the school normally leaves the school in charge of 11th grade students, these young people will play the role of teachers, administrators and managers. But they will also organize recreational activities for their little brothers such as: fairs, math games, picnics, fun classes, etc.

However, in this celebration we will also be commemorating the life and work of our founder San Juan Bautista de La Salle, which has acquired great importance over the years, and we can interpret this week as a small break for our teachers, who do a very good job in their teaching work, a responsibility lesson for our 11th grade students and a way to unite the entire Lasallian family.
And finally, on May 17 will be held the opening of interclass games, from 3 pm, a recreational activity and the most important, which will culminate Lasallian week. It is an open invitation, and you can assist so that you can prove the Lasallian spirit in its greatest splendor.

DO NOT MISS IT!

AREPA STUFFED WITH CHICKEN

INGREDIENTS:
  • To prepare about 10 arepas: 400 gr. of precooked corn flour P.A.N. (white)
  • 600 ml. of warm (or warm) water
  • 1 teaspoon salt type dessert
  • For the filling: 400 gr. of chicken meat (breast, sirloin)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt

In the same way as the Venezuelan arepas we will first prepare the dough of the arepas, then we will cook them and then we will put the filling while they rest.

TO PREPARE AREPA'S MASS:
  1. For the mass of arepas, we will use lukewarm or warm water, to favor the kneading. In a large bowl, take the water and salt (1 tablespoon dessert).
  2. Next, we are pouring the flour little by little, while mixing with the help of a fork. Little by little, it will be taking consistency.
  3. We continue kneading now with our hands, with movements from the outside towards the inside, so that the flour absorbs all the liquid.
  4. The result will be a homogenous and uniform mass, with a smooth texture.
  5. Wet your hands lightly, and go picking up small pieces of dough to make balls. Like when you make meatballs.
  6. The size is about twice the size of a walnut. Once the balls are made, we crush them so that they take a round shape.
  7. We put a little oil in a nonstick plate (or in a pan) and we are cooking the arepas, on both sides.
  8. In 5 minutes they will start to get a tan color on the outside, and at that point they will also be made inside.
  9. We remove them to a plate and cover them with a cloth.
  10. While we are preparing the filling, they will continue to "cook" with the residual heat, and they will be ready by the time we fill them.
PREPARATION OF THE CHICKEN FILLING:

The chicken meat better that it is of breast, thigh, sirloin, etc. of parts that are tender and then we can easily crumble.
  1. Cut it into small pieces and salt to taste.
  2. Chop fine garlic and onion in small brunoise. We poach in a pan. Add the chicken and sauté until it starts to brown.Cut it into small pieces and salt to taste.
  3. Let's salt to taste. We remove everything and reserve on kitchen paper.
  4. Peel the avocado and cut the inner flesh into small dice. Also with the ripe banana.
  5. We passed the chicken meat (plus garlic and onion) to a large bowl and crumbled it.
  6. Now let's add the rest of ingredients: avocado, banana, mayonnaise, coriander, well chopped, and mix well together.
  7. Once at the table, we cut the arepa into two halves, but without reaching the end, so that it is firmer.
  8. Fill and ready. A Latin bite that will captivate you, and that you can on other occasions fill with other ingredients to your liking.

NOTICE:

Good morning, little people, as you already know, the blog's theme will be changed, but it will continue to be related to Colomiba, my beautiful country. The theme is: typical food, because I was the winner in the survey I did.

I hope you continue to visit my blog and try to taste the next typical dishes with the recipes that I will give you.
